Glycemic Index & Glycemic Load
Hello lovelies I thought I’d share this with you lovely lot a video about the glycemic index and how to calculate the glycemic load of the food you actually eat in regards to portion sizes can make a difference to how quickly that food is absorbed ❤️
Watch “Insulin Resistance Diet: Why It Has To Be Low-fat, Plant-based & Whole Food | Mastering Diabetes” on YouTube
Hello lovelies for anyone who never visited before and seeing this for the first time I have Reactive Hypoglycemia. I come from the UK and have been working on stabilising the blood glucose levels and finding the cause of my RH attacks. Ive found certain foods trigger RH symptoms these are hyperglycemic and hypoglycemic depending on the trigger and how severe it effects me. I’ve had various tests and these have revealed I have an intolerance for carbohydrates. So the endocrinologist said to eat protein with each meal and don’t have high amount of carbs..
I’m inclined to agree with her to a point. I have definite food sensitivities to gluten aswell as simple processed carbohydrates such as white bread pasta rice flour and other highly processed gluten free goods that seem to have contained refined sugars and unhealthy fats. As a result, I concluded my inability to process a certain amount of carbohydrates was down to insulin resistance. So I decided to look for information to help me feel better as the high protein and fat diet wasn’t helping. It only seem to be compounding the symptoms. So like Dr Cyrus, I decided to educate myself and learn how to eat. My aims are to gain insulin sensitivity and foods that only plant based. That don’t cause any triggers for RH attacks
I’ve been doing some research to find out what kinds of foods I can consume which will help insulin resistance. Then I came across Dr Cyrus Khambatta PhD along with Robbie Barbero and the Diabetes Method on YouTube channel Physicians Committee and recently discovered the Diabetes Method YouTube channel.
I went on to purchase the same titled book and I have improved my symptoms and have managed to slowly gain weight and the symptoms aren’t as severe. In conclusion a low fat whole foods plant based diet that is low in fat oil salt and sugar. I have changed my unrefined sugar to a plantbased low GI sugar alternative. I also test my blood glucose levels before and 2 hours after eating. In addition to this the glucometer comes out before I go to bed. Also testing my blood when I’m feeling symptomatic. However I’m not always aware of symptoms when my blood sugar levels are low. ❤️

Hello my lovelies these recipes are easy to adapt for food sensitivities.
I watched the video at the time and I think dates were used for refined sugar. If you’re unable to add dates then a plant based sugar alternative such as Xylitol is diabetic friendly alternative due to the low sugar content. However if there is no alternative to sugar then you can opt for an unrefined sugar which is better than a highly processed white sugar ❤️
Watch “Getting Enough Calories Eating a Plant-Based Diet? | Dr. Jim Loomis Live Q&A” on YouTube
Hello lovelies I thought this was an interesting video as it is easy to think you’re eating enough but not actually be consuming a right amount of calorie intake to maintain energy you burn up daily..
I use the Cronometer app from time to time mainly as a tool to ensure I have a balanced diet with foods from each food group. I was concerned as I was having several bouts of RH attacks and knew I’d lost weight as it is difficult to eat anything when you’re having an RH attack. So after watching this video a few months ago I thought I’d jump on the app and do a few days of eating to see if I was getting enough calories.
What I found was interesting one out of the three days I was indeed not quite eating enough calories. While my mobility and lung condition mean I can’t move about as much as I’d like to. It did mean one of those days I was likely to lose weight if I didn’t eat enough of the higher calorie dense foods.
Luckily I do have my own copy of the Diabetes Method so was able to find the list of categorised foods and they’re listed from higher nutrient calorie dense foods to the foods low in calories. I noted that I have enough fibre in my diet and was getting too much leafy greens. They’re naturally filling and low in calories and I don’t need to eat loads to obtain enough calories. So this is how I found while I was eating healthy I wasn’t eating enough of the whole foods such as potatoes and root vegetables and too much leafy greens.
The good news was I’ve been eating more sweet potato and eating larger portion sizes. I avoid using any fats to maximise my insulin sensitivity. Although this being said I’m aware that we as humans need a certain amount of fats to function and sustain life. Same applies to insulin and glucose is required for the brain to function.
When you have insulin resistance your body aswell as your brain doesn’t get enough glucose to function. This is why people with conditions such as Reactive Hypoglycemia (RH) Prediabetes aswell the other types of Diabetes Mellitus have mental sluggishness and lack of focus and brain fog. This can progress to confusion and high cortisol warning the body to eat quickly as they are low in energy. Anyhoo I’ve been managing to improve my overall quality of food and daily intake in terms of variety and volume of food and I’m managing to gain the weight needed. I’m nearly 7st 3lb or 100 pounds which is the most I’ve able to gain between RH bouts. However brain fog and mental sluggishness is also a common symptoms of Hypothyroidism which I also have.. Anyway its definitely worth watching.. N. x ❤️
Watch “Texas – In Demand (Official Video)” on YouTube
Hello my lovelies people that know me well enough know that music is a big part of my life. Cinema and watching the latest film or at home catching a favourite film on DVD is also something I’d like to do. Texas is a band that I loved to hear..
Ive always been fascinated by some singers that are Scottish and how their accents don’t translate to song. Some UK singers can have a very strong Scottish accent when talking, and Charlene Spiteri is a good example. Marti Pellow from Wet Wet Wet is another voice have a very strong accent but singing sounds different somehow I can’t hear the accent in their singing.
But if you listened to the Proclaimers who again have strong Scottish accent and you can hear it in their singing.. especially the single ‘from America’ you can totally understand the Scottish accent. Another actor who was good at different accent and a favourite actor of mine is in this music video, the late great Alan Rickman… Enjoy ❤️

Greenhouse Goodies Update..
Hello my lovelies the greenhouse and parts of the garden are looking great this year. Last year we grew some Bell Peppers or as my Kiwi cousins would call them Capsicums.
We are growing some new foods amongst the varieties we like to grow already. Photos are to follow at the end of this post. This year’s food includes corn on the cobs, carrots parsnips salad vegetables herbs and fruits..
Today was the first day I felt well enough to do something in the garden. So I managed to clear two of our planters which was smothered in weeds which have protected the fuchsia shrub. I can’t remember what type of a fuchsia she is but she is smothered in flowers every year and the 3rd year since I adopted the no dig technique and has been more lovely flowers appearing year on year. The individual flowers are significantly better in terms of volume as well as high quality flowers. As the flowers were fewer in numbers as well as the quality of individual flowers differed in shape and some were deformed shaped flowers and petals..
Finally I even found a poor miniature rose bush while looking rather spindly looking it has a few green healthy leaves.. since it has nothing around it anymore, it can flourish with some TLC and the addition of some organic fertiliser pellets…
On this wonderfully hot by 28°C and sunny Friday afternoon in South East London North West Kent borders… Sending love with gentle hugs and wishing you all a symptom and|or pain free weekend. I’m having my cannabis medicine on the garden with Steve Wright on Radio 2 ❤️
